The performance/installation centers around a 20×20’ green-and-red polka-dot present made from plywood, with viewing windows and toped by bow made from tarps, surrounded by plastic blow-mold decorations and Christmas lights. Using a “just-in-time” production style the elves will create individualized works that re-imagine and respond to visitors’ Christmas wishes. We create an experience through which visitors might consider the role of waste, the ways that labor is a commoditized, the environmental, political and social impact of our desires. In both the detritus of everyday life, labour, and technologies we will help to bring light to the ecological, economic and political.
